Bursa Malaysia : KLCI Technical Analysis 13 Aug


Market Review for KLCI:
FBMKLCI opened higher this morning lifted by buying support despite the overnight weak performance on Wall Street. The Bursa Malaysia key index, FBM KLCI was 7.65 points or 0.41% higher. There were 409 gainers, 316 losers and 327 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia. Wall Street ended lower yesterday following the disappointing German economic data as well as ahead of the US retail sales report.

Economic Factors:
  • The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar in early trade this morning on mild buying.
  • Press Metal Bhd's shares rose 15 sen to RM6.25 following its bullish second quarter results posted yesterday.
  • The three-month Kuala Lumpur Interbank Offered Rate (KLIBOR) futures contracts ended untraded yesterday.
  • Crude palm oil (CPO) futures prices rebounded to close higher yesterday after touching a one-year low on Monday, supported by renewed demand for the commodity.
  • The local rubber market extended its losses yesterday in tandem with the downtrend on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange (Tocom). The rubber futures prices on Tocom had been affected by the uncertainties in crude oil prices.
  • Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) net profit inched up to RM39.81 billion in the first six months of this year from RM35.63 billion a year ago. Its revenue rose 12% to RM169.40 billion from RM151.10 billion in the same period last year. The group said the stronger revenue was mainly due to higher oil and gas production volume, petroleum products and LNG trading volume.

Share prices opened lower with STI down 3.69 points to 3,298.80.Asian shares were mixed today, with the Tokyo market shrugging off data showing a contraction in the Japanese economy as investors awaited the release of key US and Chinese data. The market closed lower breaking the support of 3307 and closed at 3301.41.

Important Factor for today:-
  • Hong Kong stocks opened 0.15 per cent higher as investors shrugged off a weak lead from the US and European markets.
  • PALM oil firm Bumitama Agri saw net profit surge 89.6 per cent year on year to 293.34 billion rupiah (S$31.34 million) for the second quarter ended June 30, bolstered by the higher selling price and sales volume of both crude palm oil and palm kernel.
  • Net profit for palm oil producer First Resources dropped 30.8 per cent year on year to US$26.09 million in the second quarter ended June 30, 2014, as operating profit fell due to the lower selling prices of crude palm oil and its refined products.
  • Swiber Holdings, the support services provider to the offshore oil and gas industry, reported a net profit of US$63 million for the six months ended June 30 (HY2014), up 68.3% from US$37.4 million in the same period a year ago.

Market Review for STI:
Share prices opened higher with STI up at 3314.90. Singapore’s economy unexpectedly expanded last quarter as manufacturing declined less than initially estimated amid recoveries in advanced countries. The high for the day was observed at 3319.7 and the low was observed at 3303.03.

Important Factor for today:-
  • Valueelectronics Holdings, the designer and manufacturer for consumer electronics brands, announced that its net profit for the three months ended 30 June 2014 (1QFY2015) increased by 1.8% to HK$33.9 million from a year ago (1QFY2014).
  • SINGAPORE has revised lower its full-year 2014 growth forecasts for total trade and non-oil domestic exports to between 1.5 and 2.5 and between -2.0 and -1.0 per cent, respectively.
  • Falcon Energy Group, the provider of services to the offshore oil and gas industry, announced it has recorded revenue growth of 254.3% to US$92.7 million and a 26.3% increase in profit after tax to US$10 million for the first quarter of the financial period ended June (1QFY2015) from a year ago.
  • CSE Global on Monday said its profit attributable to owners of the company for the fiscal second quarter ended June 30 fell 35.5 per cent year on year to S$8.03 million.
  • VEHICLE inspecting and testing services provider VICOM's net profit for the second quarter ended June rose 5.5 per cent to S$7.23 million from S$6.85 million a year ago.Revenue raised 2.4 per cent, from S$26.62 million to S$27.26 million.

Share prices opened lower with the Straits Times Index down 6.27 points to 3,316.35. South Korean stocks eased and the won was little changed on Thursday as most investors stayed on the sidelines ahead of key central bank policy meetings in the European Union, UK and Japan. The close for the day was observed at 3314.22, formed a red doji for the day.

  • HDB resale prices dropped for the sixth consecutive month in July, data compiled by the Singapore Real Estate Exchange (SRX) shows.
  • Vallianz Holdings, the provider of offshore support vessels and integrated marine solutions to the oil and gas industry, today reported a doubling of net profit to US$5.8 million for the second quarter ended 30 June 2014 (2Q2014) from US$2.8 million in 2Q2013.
  • TEE International, the engineering and real estate group, said it won a total of $60 million worth of contracts to carry out mechanical and electrical works for the The Parisian Macao, located at the Cotai Strip in Macau.
  • Singapore Airlines Ltd.’s budget carrier Scoot doesn’t want to use the city’s new airport terminal and regards the $1.28 billion facility as a “folly”.

Important Factor for today:-
  • SINGAPORE’S life insurance industry managed to sustain its growth for the first six months of this year.
  • Yangzijiang Shipbuilding reported a 52 per cent jump in net profit for the second quarter ended June 30 to 1.24 billion yuan, despite a 3 per cent drop in revenue to 4.27 billion yuan after delivering fewer vessels during the period.
  • SINGAPORE Post Limited said its net profit for the fiscal first quarter ended June 30, 2014 rose 5.1 per cent to S$39.24 million. Revenue increased 4.8 per cent to S$210.91 million, as growth in e-commerce related activities continued to offset declines in the traditional postal business
  • STAR HUB has posted a 6.3 per cent decrease in net profit to S$94.3 million for the second quarter ended June 30.
  • HG Metal Manufacturing recorded a net loss after tax of $13.3 million in the quarter ended 30 June 2014 (2Q2014), compared to a profit of $0.7 million in 2Q2013 due to one-time provisions for inventories, doubtful debts and asset impairment on disposal of factory assets.
